1) Goal of Swarna’s Kolam

1) Our goal is to preserve the art of kolam.
2) To provide step by step guide so as to make it easier for the younger generation to learn and draw.

2) How Swarna’s Kolam Facebook page started?
The Idea invoked when my sister Sudhaa and my friend Susheema requested for a Kolam design to be shared with them on the account of Karthigai Deepam (Hindu Lights festival). So immediately uploaded couple of designs and used facebook as a medium to share it with them. For next one year there was no activity and again during the same festival next year they had asked me to upload new kolam designs on the Facebook Page. That’s when I thought to digitalize all my Kolams not just for that occasion but to be beneficial to all at all times.

3) Swarna’s Kolam how it is done?
All kolams are hand drawn to give the originality.
Steps are as follows:
3) Draw step by step in a paper and take a picture
4) Upload in the computer
5) Edit the photos by adding the name and kolam number
6) Share in the FB page and blog with the detail step by step instructions

4) How Swarna’s Kolam blog started?
I started to get feedback from people who are not in Facebook saying it will be easier to refer if it is in a Blog. Also an advantage in blog, it is more categorised and very user friendly.

5) Where I learnt the art of Kolam? 
I learnt the art of Kolam from my mom. 

6) Where do I get all the Kolam patterns?

The patterns are often passed on from one generation to the next generation, like from a mother to her daughter. Yeah yes same way I got the designs from my mom Yegammai and my chithi Meenakshi. Thanks to both of them.
